Our History

Tom Cavin began in the investment business in 1982 and formed Investment Planning Group in 1989. He believed being an independent financial planner better served the needs of his clients and enabled him to give objective advice rather than being a product-sales driven company.

Brandyn Cavin started his career in financial planning with a private firm in Santa Barbara. There he worked closely with doctors and dentists in developing their retirement plans. In 2006 Brandyn and his wife moved back to Santa Cruz and he and Tom joined forces. Together they take a team approach to working with clients, putting their more than 50 years of combined experience to work.
